Description |
The house is a 1-story vernacular building facing south to Birch Avenue. It
has a front end gabled orientation; the roof is clad with asphalt shingles
and features a small chimney near the northeast corner and exposed rafter
tails along the side walls. The frame walls are clad with machined shingles
on the main (south) elevation and tarpaper on the side walls. Windows are
replacement 1x1 double hung sash units. The house has three bays on the
south elevation and two on the side walls. A small portico shades the front
entrance; the portico consists of a small gable supported on two thin
square corner posts. The door is original, with four inset lights above the
lockrail. The house has a concrete foundation. |

History |
The house was constructed c. 1925. Historic maps indicate that the property
was vacant as late as the Sanborn atlas of 1918. The first indication of
the house is the historic aerial of 1940, which shows the building (as do
all subsequent historic aerials). Note: the historic atlas of 1930 does not
document houses along Birch Avenue. The house is reported to have been the
site where the Pentecostal church was founded (the congregation currently
meets two doors to the east). |
