Description

This house is a two-and-a-half-story, two-bay, American Foursquare building and its main features are its hipped-roofed front porch, hipped- roof dormer, and exterior brick chimney. It features a hipped roof that is clad in asphalt shingles with a denticulated cornice. The roof of the south (front) elevation of the house features a centered, hipped-roof dormer with one double window with the eastern opening filled by a vent and the western opening filled by a four-paned window. The first floor of the south elevation features a one-story, full-length, hipped-roofed porch and an off-set front door. The porch is accessed by an off-set concrete staircase with a double iron balustrade supported by low, concrete parapets. The porch features three, square, wood columns supported by a low, stuccoed parapet. The front door is flanked by one, triple, four-over-one, double- hung sash window to its west. On the second floor, there are two, single, four-over-one, double-hung sash windows more or less centered over the front door and triple window on the first floor. There is a one-story, flat-roofed addition on the north (back) elevation that is stuccoed. The house’s foundation is clad in stucco.

History

The house was constructed c. 1920. Historic maps and Sanborn Atlases show a vacant parcel in this location as late as 1918. [The historic atlas of 1930 does not cover Birch Avenue.] The house first appears on the historic aerial of 1940 and appears on all subsequent historic aerials.
