DESCRIPTION

Setting

Description

The building on the property is a front end gabled Bungalow facing north. The front end gabled roof is clad with asphalt shingles and features a square brick chimney on the east slope. A dormer on the west elevation is a long shed element with aluminum walls. The house has vinyl-clad eaves. The house's frame walls are mostly clad with aluminum siding, although the first floor under the front porch is clad with permastone. Fenestration consists of replacement 1x1 double hung sash units; those under the porch feature lip lintels. On the main elevation, a window is centered in the peak of the gable to light the attic level, and a door flanked by windows occupy the first floor. The door is a mid-20th century element with three inset lights of different sizes. The front porch has a nearly flat, hipped roof supported by a series of iron posts connected by an iron railing that flows down a set of concrete steps to the grade of the front lawn. The side walls feature windows on the first floor. The house has a concrete foundation with horizontal basement windows.

The house was constructed c. 1920. Historic maps and atlases show a vacant lot in this location as late as the Sanborn atlas of 1918. The Franklin Survey atlas of 1930 does not document properties north of Leigh Avenue. The house first appears on the historic aerial of 1940 and appears on all subsequent aerials.
