Description

This house is a 2.5-story, 3-bay, American Foursquare building facing south. Its main features are its hipped-roof front dormer and a hipped- roof front porch. The house’s pyramidal roof is clad with asphalt shingles and has vinyl- clad eaves. A centered, hipped-roof dormer is located on the south slope of the roof and contains a small 1x1 double hung sash window. The house’s walls are clad in vinyl siding. All windows and doors are replacement units, most of which are 1x1 double hung sash units. On the main (south) elevation, the second floor has an inset oval window that reduced the historic window west of a 1x1 window. The first floor has a replacement door with an oval light (dates to circa 2000) in the west bay and two windows. The first floor of the south elevation features a one-story, full- length, hipped-roofed, wood porch with four turned-wood posts and a turned-wood balustrade; it is accessed by an off-set concrete staircase before the front door. The east and west side walls feature windows on the first and second floors that are not aligned vertically; the west elevation has a door that opens on grade through the cast stone foundation. At the rear of the property, there is a one-and-a-half-story, two-bay, gambrel-roofed, concrete block garage.

History

The house was constructed c. 1920. Historic atlases show a vacant lot in this location as late as the Sanborn Atlas of 1918. American Foursquare houses went out of style around 1930, which suggests that the house was constructed in the 1920s. The house is shown on the historic aerial of 1940.
