DESCRIPTION

Setting

Description

This house is a two-and-a-half-story, two-bay, Dutch Colonial Revival building and its main features are its shed-roof dormers and hipped- roofed porch. It features a front-gambrel roof clad in asphalt shingles; its eaves are clad in aluminum siding. The house also is clad in aluminum siding. All of the house’s windows and doors are replacements. The first floor of the south (front) elevation features a one-story, full- length, hipped-roof, wood porch and an off-set front door. The porch is accessed by an off-set, concrete staircase with a double, iron balustrade. It features three square wood columns and a wood balustrade. The front door is flanked by one, triple, one-over-one, double-hung sash window to its west. On the second floor, there are two, single, one-over- one, double-hung sash windows; one is centered over the front door, the other is centered over the triple window on the first floor. There is a small, single, three-pane lunette window centered in the gable. The second floor of the east elevation features a full-length, shed- roofed dormer with one, single, one-over-one, double-hung sash window on its south end and two, single, one-over-one, double-hung sash windows on its north end. The second floor of the west elevation features a full-length, shed- roofed dormer with one, single, one-over-one, double-hung sash window on its south end and two, single, one-over-one, double-hung sash windows on its north end. There is a one-story addition to the north (back) elevation. There is a one-story addition to the north (back) elevation.

History

The house was constructed c. 1925. Historic maps show a vacant lot in this location as late as the Sanborn Atlas of 1918. The house is clearly shown on the historic aerial of 1940. [Note: the atlas of 1930 does not include the north side of Leigh Avenue.]
