Description

This house is a one-and-a-half-story, two-bay Bungalow facing south. Its main architectural features are its enclosed, hipped-roofed front porch and wood shingle cladding. It features a front-gabled roof clad in asphalt shingles with a central stuccoed chimney. The house is clad in wood shingles. All of the building’s doors and windows are replacements. The south (front) elevation of the house features an enclosed, one-story, full-length, hipped-roof porch and an off-set front door. The porch is accessed by a wood staircase. It features three Doric columns supported by brick piers and that in turn support the roof and the porch walls. The off-set front door features full-length, single-pane sidelights on either side. It is flanked to its east by one of the Doric columns which in turn is flanked to its east by a full-length ribbon of four, single, fixed- pane windows. The front door, its sidelights, and each pane in the ribbon window is topped by a single-pane transom. The wall under the windows is paneled. In the gable above the first floor, there are two one-over-one, double-hung sash windows centered in the façade. There is a small, octagonal window in the peak of the gable. There is an addition to the north (back) elevation. The house’s foundation is constructed of concrete.

History

The house was constructed c. 1925. Historic maps show a vacant lot in this location as late as the Sanborn Atlas of 1918. The house is clearly shown on the historic aerial of 1940. [Note: the atlas of 1930 does not include the north side of Leigh Avenue.]
