DESCRIPTION

Setting

Description

This house is a two-and-a-half-story, two-bay, vernacular building and its main architectural features are its steeply-pitched roof and hipped- roof porch. It features a steeply-pitched, front-gable roof that is clad with asphalt shinglesand that has vinyl-clad eaves. There is an exterior brick chimney located on the west end of the north (rear) elevation. The house is clad in aluminum siding.All of the house’s windows are replacements. The south (front) elevation of the house features aone- story, full-length, hipped-roof porch and an off-set front door. The porch is accessed by a wood staircase with a double, wood balustrade with wood newel posts. It features three Doric columnsthat support the roof. The off-set front door is flanked by one, double, one-over-over, double- hung sash window to its west. On the second floor, there are two,one-over-one, double-hung sash windows, oneis centered between the front door and the first floor window and the other is centered more or less over the western end of the double window on the first floor. There is one, single, one-over-one, double- hung sash window centered in the gable of this elevation. There is a one-story addition to the north (rear) elevation. The house’s foundation is clad in stucco.

History

The house was constructed c. 1910 Historic maps show a vacant lot in this location as late as the Sanborn Atlas of 1906. The house first appears on the Sanborn Atlas of 1911. Race Street was laid out in the 1920s, replacing earlier building lots.
