Description

This house is a 1.5-story, two-bay, L-shaped building consisting of a Bungalow residence at 95 Leigh Avenue and a garage wing at 93 Leigh Avenue. The house’s main architectural feature is its wood shingle cladding. It features a front-gable roof clad in asphalt shingles with a central brick chimney.The house is clad in wood shingles. All of the building’s doors and windows are replacements.

The south (front) elevation of the Bungalow (95 Leigh Avenue) features an enclosed, one-story, full-length, shed-roof porch and a center front door. The porch is accessed by a brick staircase. It features four, square, wood half-pilasters supported by the porch’s brick wall and that in turn support the roof. The center front door features half-length, triple-pane sidelights on either side. It is flanked on each side by one of the half- pilasters. To its east, it is flanked by one, double, one- over-one, double-hung sash window. To its west, it also is flanked by one, double, one-over-one, double-hung sash window. The wall under the windows is constructed of brick. In the gable, there is one, small, one- over-one, double-hung sash window.

The east elevation features a recessed, one-and-a-half-story, three-bay, side-gable-roofed modern garage addition (93 Leigh Avenue). The first floor of the south elevation of the addition features an entrance with a double-leaf, glass door on its west end flanked by two over-head garage doors in the center and east end of the addition. Over the eastern most garage door is a front-gable dormer with a single, double-hung sash window.

History

The house was constructed c. 1920. Historic maps show a vacant lot in this location as late as the Sanborn Atlas of 1918. The main part of the house first appears on the historic aerial of 1940. The garage section (93 Leigh Ave) is not shown on historic aerials as late as 1947 but does appear on the historic aerial of 1953.
